Bars, casinos and brothels are open until all hours. Prostitution is legal and widely accepted. Beautiful young women come from all over Central and South America to work as escorts for adventurous men.
BUT…is Costa Rica a good place for an active single guy to retire and live full time? Well, I tried living there for a whole year.

“What man hasn't had the dream of kicking back in some foreign country where the beer is cold, the weather is warm and the girls are smokin' hot and readily available?” (From the introduction)
Well, my friend, if you have ever had that dream you owe it to yourself to read this book. Chuck Green has been there and done it all. In this book he describes in detail where to find the action in Costa Rica and discusses the pros and cons of living there full time.

As you read “Living La Vida Loca” you will see through the eyes of an experienced expatriate a side of Costa Rica that is mostly unknown to the average “ecotourist”. A world of fast living, gambling, drugs, prostitution and easy sex. A world full of women trying to get by the best way they can; often by offering their services as escorts to any guy with a pocketful of green dollars to spend. An exciting and sometimes rather sad world in which those who have, the “sex tourists”, come to buy that which they cannot find...or cannot afford in their own countries.
But, this book is not an exposé of the play-for-pay scene in San José. It’s really the very personal narrative of Chuck Green’s journey through this world in search of a direction in his own life. His attempt to recapture the excitement and exhilaration of the “hunt”, of the “game” and to experience one more time, perhaps for the last time, the challenge of starting over again in a new country.
Although not intended to be a travel guide, nor a comprehensive guide to “retirement”, this book offers loads of valuable information for the adventurous male tourist and for any single man who may be considering relocation to Costa Rica or some other Central American country.
As the reader travels through the underworld of San José with Chuck he will learn…
· Where best to stay when visiting that city. Which hotels are “chica friendly” and don’t object to frequent “guests”.
· Where the girls are. The locations of the bars, brothels and massage parlors where an adventurous guy will find the action he craves. The best places to go to find escorts.
· How much to pay for company. How to negotiate and set ground rules for a good experience. How to seek out the elusive “GFE”, the girlfriend fantasy experience.
· How to arrange ones financial and personal affairs so as to live with a minimum of hassle in a foreign country. How much it currently costs to live in a city like San José.
· How to find a permanent place to live and set up phone, internet, cable and other services in San José. The pros and cons of owning a car in Costa Rica, of investing and of trying to work or go into business.
· How to stay safe and avoid becoming a statistic in a sometimes dangerous environment.
· Details of Chuck’s adventures in Jacó, in Puerto Viejo and in Cartagena, Colombia.
· Where to find up to date information on the Internet on the current scene in San José . How to hook up there with like minded guys who engage in the “hobby”.
· Photos throughout the book will help the reader to visualize and understand Chuck’s experience. Links at the end of the book will take the interested reader to the best Internet Discussion Forums on the subject of single male travel to Costa Rica.
In the final chapter, Leaving the Dream, Chuck explains in detail how after a year he concluded that although Costa Rica was and is a great place to visit and party, it was just not a place where he wanted to reside permanently. Anyone even thinking of visiting or relocating to a Latin country will benefit from reading this book.
